I was all ready to practice and she got right in my way....

What a cat. Oh well. At least she's extremely portable. Which brings me to my short blog of today -- my kids at school work on 10 new vocab words a week. And it's awesome, because I challenge myself to use at least one word a day in each class, and they're finally starting to notice. (Hey, at least they noticed eventually). It's nice to be back to the world of reading, too. I have time (not much, but some, and more that I make for myself) to read again. Working on that English major just beat the "reading for fun" bug right out of me. But it's back. I just finished "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd, and it was great. I was concerned when starting it that it would be one of those books about how special it is to be a crazy Southern woman and how women have special relationships unlike any men could ever dream of, but it was much more than that ...and not really that book in the first place. It was good. I've got Chocolat by..someone who's name I can't remember all lined up to start tonight, and then "The Known World" by someone else after that. I love books. It's just calming to come into this new and beautiful room and sit on the futon and read with all those stories sitting right next to me. I love reading nooks. In middle school/high school, I used grab a pillow and sit in the nook between my bed and the wall, so that I couldn't be seen with the door open. It was so relieving to be somewhere where people would actually have to search (if only a little) to find me. Just me and my book. Now I have this whole room. It's so peaceful, and now I have a new little nook if I get tired of the futon -- between the futon and the bookshelf. Small spaces are so comforting...my own little hobbit hole.
